cropped-red-acf.jpgApple Creek Farm was established in Bowdoinham by the Galle family in 1985. Originally wooded, the farmers have brought the land back to pastures through careful clearing. In addition, the farm utilizes more than 70 acres of leased land in the surrounding area.

Applecreek-133Jake and Abby moved to Bowdoinham in January of 2014 assuming management of Apple Creek Farm. The farm enterprises include certified organic, grass-fed beef, lamb and goat.  In addition, the farm produces certified organic, pasture-raised broiler chickens, geese and turkeys. Other farm products include certified organic eggs, cashmere, wool, goat hides and sheepskins.

Though Jake grew up on the farm his travels after college included stints at artists residencies across the country and farming experiences gained at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello and at Smith Meadows Farm in Berryville, VA – a grass-based livestock farm raising beef cows, sheep, hogs, layers and broilers. When Jake moved back to Maine in May of 2009 he wanted to farm the land where he grew up. He began to co-manage the herd of cows and flock of sheep with Pete, his father, and part-time help from his brother Arek who lives in Rhode Island.

At this time he also reconnected with a fellow artist-farmer, Abby Sadauckas. Abby grew up in the rural Pennsylvania town of Hop Bottom. Abby had started her own farm, Bacon Brook Farmstead in 2009 where she raised organic North American cashmere goats. In 2010 Abby and Jake began farming together by raising broilers and geese for markets in Brunswick.

on Tuesdays 8 am – 2 pm at: Brunswick Tuesday Market
November – April  Brunswick Winter Market in Fort Andross, Saturdays 9 am – 12:30 pm
